Hey Everybody!
We made it to Japan! Okay... a quick recap of events:
We had an early flight so we were at the airport a little before 5am on June 26th. After some trouble with Air Canada and their decisions to change their baggage weight restrictions Georgia had to pay extra and we were unable to bring her guitar.
Unfortunately, we had to waste a lot of time talking to their representatives which made cut into our goodbye time with our families. WE LOVE YOU GUYS!
First we had a short flight to Vancouver and a LONG layover there... which was AWESOME! The Vancouver airport is incredible and it was actually a really nice experience hanging out there and looking at an aquarium and such. Georgia bought some very nice perfume (tax free!) and we were off to our gate.
The next flight was crappy. The plane was an older one and did not have individual touch screen television and movie options. We played a lot of Nintendo DS and slept for short periods of time. Georgia started to feel sick with about 3 hours to go and was dismayed to learn that she wasn't allowed to step outside the cabin for a while until she felt better. It was her first long flight and she did very well considering she had to down a lot of gravol.
We arrived to a nice (but cloudy) day in Narita airport where we were STRESSED OUT. We had to arrange transportation to our hotel and we probably would have taken the train if we didn't have an insane amount of luggage. After haggling with a taxi driver who wanted all of our money and several years of slave service, we decided to take a bus. It was a long trip because there was an accident on the freeway in Tokyo but after about 1 hour and 45 minutes we pulled up to Hotel Nikko Tokyo. Our hotel is UNREAL! We are near the Japanese harbour and about a block away from a gigantic mall where we have been throwing our savings away :)
I bought some sunglasses and Georgia found some glasses and shoes.
Other than the absence of an ironing board in our room everything has been great and we are having a wonderful time. We are off to meet a family acquantance and have a night on the town.
It may be a while until our next post... our electrical converter warns us against using it with anything that has an electric circuit... sigh.
Jim
