Woot we leave on Thursday!
Crap it's been a long haul though...
After we decided that Japan would be a sweet place to go to together, we took a $1000 TESOL course last January to ensure that we would know what the hell to do as teachers overseas. We were pretty much assured that we would be able to find jobs in Japan without degrees or formal teaching experience (which it typically required) sooo we were set and totally stoked...and certified!!
After school wrapped up in April and we got all of our resumes etc together, we started contacting a ton of schools in Japan regarding teaching positions. I kid you not: i sent on average 5 emails a day for about 2 MONTHS and NO ONE was interested in 2 teachers with 3 years of post secondary education, TESOL certification and at least 2 years of informal teaching experience. This was extremely discouraging! However, withing the last month or so, we have been contacted for interviews by 4 schools, (after i mentioned in my email that we would areange for our own visas...) 2 of which were a complete joke and didn't even get back to us after the interviews, and the 3rd seemed like it went really well (located in a beautiful beach town and run by some super laid-back American dude) except he hired other people over us with more "classroom experience" I assume...ergh. Our TESOL certificate was officially rendered useless. At this point we were just so anxious to go that we were just going to head over there and apply for jobs once we got there (which was a kind of intimidating venture)... and then (after i sent my last 6 or so emails to random employers before we were just going to plan to leave ourselves), there was Mark :)! To be continued...
This is getting super long so i'll leave it at that for now... I'll update shortly!
Jim I'm so excited that we get to go on this amazing adventure together... I LOVE YOU!!!!
